JOB DESCRIPTION
CLASS TITLE:FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT III
DEFINITION: Under direction of the Food Service Director, performs a full range of food preparation and serving duties; cleans kitchen equipment, utensils and facilities; assists in the direction of Food Service employees; and may assume lead responsibility for the operation of the cafeteria.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in planning and directing the work of Food Service staff.
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the school cafeteria.
Assists in preparation, set up, serving and clean-up of daily food offerings.
Accounts for money received.
Assists the Food Service Director with regular inventories and related record keeping activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Trains Food Service staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Orders, receives, checks in, and arranges for the proper storage of food and supplies.
Operates kitchen using a prescribed menu and following established procedures.
Maintains records and prepares reports.
Maintains monthly inventory of cafeteria food and supplies.
Instructs assigned Food Service personnel
Adjusts recipes according to quantities to be produced.
Assists in setting up serving line.
Cashiers during breakfast, nutrition break and lunch.
Maintains cleanliness of work area and ensures that good sanitation practices are followed.
Washes pots, pans, utensils, and other baking equipment.
Delivers lunches and food supplies to various school sites.
Counts and loads meals, food and other supplies into delivery vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Proper methods of preparing and cooking foods in large quantities.
Principles of kitchen sanitation and health practices.
Basic arithmetic principles for assisting in inventory and cashiering.
Safe work practices.
Ability to:
Operate a District delivery vehicle safely; perform manual labor safely.
Operate cafeteria equipment; work without immediate supervision.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Communicate in writing for the purposes of composing the required reports and other correspondence.
Provide leadership to other Food Service staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education equivalent to completion of 12th grade.
Three years of paid experience in preparing large quantities of food, including time in a supervisory capacity..
Valid California driver's license.
Completion of adult school or college courses in nutrition and sanitation is desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS of this position are, but not limited to, the following:
Ability to:
See for purposes of reading directions, recipes, menus and other printed matter.
Understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone.
Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone.
Operate kitchen equipment such as convection ovens, slicers, and deep fryers with dexterity.
Work rapidly and use both hands to prepare food.
Routinely lift/carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds and to occasionally lift/carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 55 pounds.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
